The Local Grants Programme funded by the European Union has entered the final stage of selecting project proposals

Even if the Republic of Moldova is going through a difficult period of pandemic, the activity of the project to stimulate the engagement of citizens and civil society organizations in decision-making processes, including the governance of public investment projects, continues.

After the launch of the Local Grants Programme in November 2019, 335 project proposals were received, related to North, Center, South, ATU Gagauzia development regions, as well as Media and Communication area. Starting with February 2020, the five partner organizations of the project "Citizens’ empowerement in the Republic of Moldova" have set up working groups and evaluation commissions to asess all proposals in line with Applicant's Guide provisions.

Thus, after the administrative check, the proposals that met the eligibility conditions were admitted to technical evaluation stage, carried out by a commission composed of independent evaluators. Following the technical and financial evaluation process, the highest scoring proposals were promoted by the partner organizations for the final selection stage - due diligence visits - as follows:

The evaluation process was a complex one, each project proposal being subjected to a thorough analysis. Given the large number of project proposals received and the limits of the amounts available for grants, the mission of the evaluation committees was difficult and very responsible. During April, the final stage of the selection process took place - conducting due diligence visits with pre-selected organizations. In the context of the current complicated situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, they are conducted including through online conferences.

In the same context, in response to the European Union's call for solidarity and support, pre-selected local organizations are requested to come up with proposals for action to help local communities overcome the negative impact of the pandemic on the socio-economic situation, which could be implemented in the next period.

The final decision on the project proposals selected for funding will be taken after the completion of all due diligence visits, and the final list will be announced on the Project’s page www.eu4civilsociety.md  and on the web pages of partner organizations.

The Local Grants Programme is launched on the basis of the Single Support Framework of the European Union (EU), to the Republic of Moldova (2017-2020) under the European Neighborhood Instrument, through the project "Citizens’ empowerement in the Republic of Moldova" (2019-2021) , funded by the EU and implemented by the German Development Coopration through GIZ (GIZ Moldova).
